Died 756. A monk-priest of Lindisfarne, Balther became an anchorite at Tinningham on the Scottish border, where he lived on Bass Rock, near North Berwick, surrounded by the sea. His relics were enshrined at Durham, with those of Saint Bilfrid (f.d. March 6), the anchorite (Benedictines).
